Welcome to the Sound Driving School blogs:

Driving Lessons Wandsworth

Having spent a lot of money and time to pass the UK driving test, it is amazing that people are throwing it all away by getting their new licenses revoked under the new driver act! which states that if you get 6 points on your licence than you have to take the theory and practical test again. There is no excuse for being caught speeding or failing to stop at a traffic light 2 of the most common reasons for points being added to licenses.

Driving Schools Earlsfield

Driving is a life Skill :Not everyone thinks learning to drive a car is a skill that they need to acquire especially if they live in a city with very good transportation links and can get anywhere they want by public transport like tooting, Earlsfield, Wimbledon. However, driving a car is a life skill that once acquired could be very useful in the future if not required now. Learning any subject when we are young is easier than when we turn thirty, driving lessons are no different and the number of lessons that younger learns need will be less than their older counterpart. As a example a 17 year old could be ready within 25 hours of driving lesson, where as a thirty year old would need 40 hours or more.

In the driving test, you will be asked by your examiner to pull up on the side of the road and than move off when it is safe to do so. It is important that you know what the DSA examiner is looking for.

What the examiner what’s too see is that you can move off smoothly and safely on level, sloping roads and at an angle, taking the correct precautionary observations. Sound Driving School our instructors use DSA approved methodology such as the POM routine which means that you must get the car prepared, take effective Observations, (which includes looking at your blind spot) and move off when it is safe to do so. When moving off make sure you only use your indicators where necessary and using them would benefit other road users and not confuse.

From the above it is evident that there are quite a lot of things to be assessed on just moving off and stopping. Your instructor will go over the POM routine in detail to make sure that, you develop good habit of driving to the DSA standard every single time and not just in your driving lesson.

There is only one thing you need to do on the day to get that test pass certificate, drive according to the required DSA standard, leaving the examiner no room to critise anything you do! Every single day roughly 40% of the candidates do that, so there is no reason why you can't do that as well, but you won't be one of them if you are relying on luck, or decide to ignore your instructor's advice, and do your own thing.

Displaying L plates is part of the requirements that must be fulfilled for a learner driver to legally drive on the road(if you hold a UK provisional license you can only drive while displaying L plates and having a supervising driver aged 21 or above who has held their license for at least 3 years, otherwise you are committing an offense and are not insured), it's main purpose is to alert other road users, so that they are not surprised when the learner commits a mistake

Taking lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) is only the beginning to achieve the ultimate goal of getting a driving licence. There are many things that learners can do outside of the driving lesson. Don't stop reading the Highway Code just because you have passed the DSA theory test, you can never have too much knowledge when preparing, even instructors at Sound Driving School are recommended to stay up to date by updating their knowledge and skills. You don't always need to be in a driving school car to be learning or practicing your driving skills. While being a passenger in a car, you can be testing your observation skills such as spotting gaps in traffic when emerging at a 'T' junction or roundabout right of way. REMEMBER if you want to save money than try and go the extra mile to give yourself a better chance in passing your practical exam.

Students taking their practical driving test should remember one important thing, that there driving in the exam must not affect other road users in a negative way (causing them to slow down, stop or change direction).

Road users would include pedestrians, motor cyclists, bicycles and other motor vehicles. Also take into account that pedestrians are vulnerable road users and you will fail the driving test if at any time your endanger them. This includes splashing them by driving through a puddle is on a rainy day.
